It’s YOU time!

Hello Friend, It's YOU-time! We pray you've had a blessed Christmas. We know that for some, that means just surviving! For others, it is enjoying a gift or the ability to give. Others are blessed to spend time with friends and family that we don't see very often. We replay old memories, missing those who have passed on to glory, and glory in new babies, new marriages, new opportunities that await us in the New Year. Whatever your season of life, we pray that your Christmas carried your heart back to that babe in the manger--who changes everything, especially us!  That's why our Woven Quiet Retreat is really the perfect gift for YOU! It's coming up Friday-Saturday-Sunday, January 8-9-10th. You may choose a 24 or 48 hour retreat. The Deadline to register is even sooner--this Thursday, December 31st I must turn in my numbers so the Sts. Peter & Paul Retreat Center can prepare for our group. So many have expressed a desire to attend this year's retreat! That's my purpose in writing--to ask that if God is prompting your heart at all to attend, will you please be obedient to that tug on your heart? I promise it will be the best thing you [...]

Woven Summer Fun!

Hello Woven Women! I know:  I've been quiet for awhile. God has been teaching much in the past months of pulling away from the desk and taking a semi-sabbatical. One thing I'm learning is to just be open to spontaneity in my schedule, to not hold such a tight grip on the arrangement of my day, not be in a hurry but instead carry a sense of expectancy of what each day and moment may birth--- and be ready to embrace that unplanned moment. But, I'm sure you'll hear more about this from me later, as I walk it out and practice it. I will let you know how that goes! With that in mind...  Are you ready to officially embrace Summer? We hope you'll PARTY WITH US on the 2nd official day of Summer for: An Evening of Fun & Games & Ice Cream Sundaes! Monday, June 22nd, 6:30-8:30pm This event will kick off our Summer Schedule, so it's only the BEGINNING of our SUMMER FUN! Are You All In? #LOVE

ALL IN! It's the topic of our 2015 Woven Women Weekend this Saturday, March 7th, and this is the day to register. What does it mean to be ALL IN? Jesus captures our attention with these words in Luke 10:27 "Love the Lord your God with ALL your heart and with ALL your soul and with ALL your strength and with ALL your mind, and, Love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus beckons us: Come All In. Jesus commands us: Go All In! Jesus is saying, "Whatever it is that you are looking for, whatever is lacking in you, you will find in me. The answer to your problem, to your situation is LOVE. When you go ALL IN, you're surrendering to the LOVE that changes everything!" "Do this and you will live." (Luke 10:28) GO ALL IN  and you can expect: New Life Joy Healing Trust Hope and a Future Peace Forgiveness Purpose Freedom Life...eternal life and so much more ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE! "God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him." "Dear friends, since God so loved [...]

Finding the Merry in Christmas

Looking for some Merry in your Christmas? Have your HO-HO-HO's turned to BAH-HUM-BUGS? We find the Merry in Christmas by peering into the face of Christ. Ah! the cherub innocence of a newborn babe! December 19, 2008, I witnessed the birth of my first grandson. What a glory to behold! Nothing could compare to this Technicolor experience. As one who is squeamish at the sight of blood, I knew early in life that I would never be a nurse or doctor. Yet, watching this babe emerge from my one and only child was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. The artist within was entranced by the color of it all: the white of the umbilical cord, the blue of the veins, the red of the blood. It magnified the miracle! The miracle of birth brought new wonder to my world. The miracle of the Child of Christmas was amplified in my heart. As I sang the Angels' songs, my heart rejoiced in depths I'd never known. "Joy to the world, the Lord is come!" I had just experienced great joy as a new grandmother. I wanted to proclaim it to the world! "O come, let us adore Him!" Peering into that baby's face was a far [...]

Reason to Fly!

I watched the process of birthing and nurturing a family from my window this past year. Male and female became mates and nested in our ready-made house. Equally excited, they did their best to ready it as an incubator. One going in to tidy things up. The other waiting to check the progress. One such day, I observed the Mrs. toting an extra long piece of grass--twice the length of their new home. The Mr. was standing guard from above-- then popped down there and pushed the opposite end into the hole-- as a true helpmate should! Weeks later, a choir of triplets announced their birth. Incessant baby-chirps insisted on needing fed. Then one day, my "Nook" guests and I were entertained as Momma gave her babes their first flight instructions. Tiny bodies dressed in soft downy feathers aligned the roof of our car port. Momma B hurriedly fetched a beak-full of energy food for each to fuel their first flight. One by one, they spread their wings. Most of their movement was down-not-up! They landed on the driveway. By the month of August, the in-and-out traffic of that tiny house was nearly nonstop. Five sparrows still consider it their home. Some days they must wait their turn to go inside. The sides of the little house bulge with [...]

Woven: Every Woman on the Planet

"Am I allowed to come to this event? I'm not in a Woven group." The answer is always a resounding "YES!" Woven is the antithesis of female cliques. My tag line "WOVEN IS FOR EVERY WOMAN" didn't seem to be working. Women aren't used to such an open invitation for friendship, and that's exactly why Woven was birthed. To express the inclusiveness of Woven Women, I was divinely inspired recently with this tag line: WOVEN is for every woman on the planet! "Divinely" inspired because it seems that God has aligned the stars and times to expand this ministry. Woven began in 1998 in one church. Soon I was writing, professionally printing, and selling my curriculum to women who were starving for meaningful relationships. Woven took a back seat as I served in various pastor positions and planted a church. Six years ago, God resurrected this ministry when I began attending Newark Church of the Nazarene. It's been beautiful to witness His purpose being actualized: "I want you WOVEN into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God." (Col. 2:2-3) The love is contagious! This small group ministry has evolved into worship events, retreats, extensive community outreach, and now our monthly Girls' Night Out. Women have experienced depth in their spiritual journey [...]

Slow Down

When was the last time you actually took the time? Time to simply slow down, enjoy the day Time to allow your inner child to come out and play Time to be idle; observe the cycle of nature Time to witness the miracles of our Maker God has been returning me to my roots. It began through a reconnection with my first BFF: my childhood friend and neighbor. Resurrected memories burst forth of so much life, play, simplicity, wonder. I realized how much of my life had been spent in the woods. I longed for the simple, quiet, rhythms of life. God had this in mind and paved the path for this process. It began with a stay at Sts. Peter & Paul Retreat Center. The weather could not have been more perfect. A simple walk in the woods burst forth reminders everywhere: This is where I began. This was my escape to never-never land. The woods: my childhood playhouse with endless wonder and possibilities! Oh how I had missed: The Woods! I was in awe of how God had clothed a fallen log with beautiful ruffles upon ruffles, and was reminded of Jesus' words in Matthew 6: Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen [...]

WOVEN GNO: When Life Becomes 911

Anyone who is old enough to remember September 11, 2001, will never forget: the day the towers fell in NYC.  A line was drawn in the sand dividing the past from the future. That single moment of time reminded the entire world that the future is unpredictable, unknown… just one moment, one day, one event can change everything. Words like Terrorism, Code Red, and Homeland Security became a part of our everyday language. Terrorism has two meanings. As a verb: the use of violence and threats. The other is actually our response: a state of fear and submission. FEAR captured us. It kept us glued to the TV, wondering what would happen next.  Do you remember where you were that day? Do you remember how you felt as you watched those towers fall, and listened to the stories of victims? I was with a friend, trying to figure out my future. Months earlier, God asked me to resign from the church I was pastoring. I had no idea why or what was next. God simply asked me to clear my agenda, be ready to go wherever He led. Sunday, September 9th, was my final service as pastor of the church. Two days later, on Tuesday, [...]

The Gift of Innocence

My daughter Nicole and I will be speaking this Wednesday, Sept. 3rd, at Licking Memorial Hospital to Break the Silence of Childhood Sexual Abuse. This article addresses the reason we are committed to sharing our story: to protect the innocence of children and to aid in the healing of those who have been robbed of their innocence.   by Dr. Morven Baker (Reposted from Jan. 2013) For several wonderful days this past week, I was blessed to hear “Nana” when a wee one woke in the middle of the night, knowing my name was safe in her mouth. Her grandpa and I just grinned at each other in the dark when she and her big sister found their way to our bed at the beach cottage, and snuggled in for giggles and whispers before the sun got up. Both of us were recipients of spontaneous hugs from fat little arms being wrapped around our necks, and we just drank in all the sweet little kisses and “I love you’s” …. our little ones felt safe and we treasured their innocence. It would be so pleasant to live in a bubble, believing that all little ones felt safe with their family members, that their [...]
